Which one is the best.....?

 

If you are confused between an electric bike and a petrol-consuming bike (ICE), then you are at the right place. We will discuss various aspects, so read till the end. You will have a crystal-clear decision whether you should go for E-Bike or a petrol-consuming bike……



What’s the difference between the two….?

Although they are very close in their shapes, they have many differences in other aspects.

  • Electric bikes use electricity for their work. It has a motor for its operation and batteries are installed to provide electric energy to the motor. There is no need for Petrol.
  •  In non-electric bikes, Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) consumes fuel (petrol) for its operation. ICE combusts petrol inside and the energy generated through this combustion is utilized to run the bike.

Comparison:

Now we will compare different aspects of Internal combustion Engine bikes and Electric bikes.

1: Environment friendly:

  • Fuel (petrol) combusting machines emit smoke and Carbon Dioxide gas is released. This gas contaminates the air which is a major cause of pollution and global warming.
  • Electric bikes are so environment friendly in this regard. No combustion, no smoke, no pollution, no global warming. In terms of Eco-friendly, E-bikes are 100% recommended.

2: The difference in Cost:

It’s not easy to decide whether I’m going to purchase an E-bike or not. First and most importantly, E-Bikes are more expensive and their upfront cost is far more than the other category i.e ICE bikes.

The question arises: Why Electric bikes are more costly?

Basically, the battery technology used in these machines is Lithium-Ion, which is more expensive. Simply we can say that the most expansive component is its battery. In the future, if there comes a cheap battery technology, E-bikes will be cheaper than normal vehicles.

3: Refueling:

If you wish to own an Electric vehicle, then think……

  • A normal petrol vehicle is so easy to refuel as you have to access any petrol station and you can fill the fuel tank.
  • In contrast, an electric bike requires charging. It’s not as simple as refueling a tank from a station, rather it requires hours. Even with the fast-charging feature, the minimal charging time could be 1-2 hours.

 

4: Range:

If you have a short ride (20-30km) in your routine, an Electric bike is only suitable for you.

 You will be thinking, why…?

It’s because normally E-bikes battery ranges between 80-120km. You have to charge it again. If you plan a long trip more than its specific range and the battery ends on your way…. What will you do?  This is the biggest disadvantage of electric bikes right now……

If you require a bike for short trips, the E-bikes are much cheaper than the ICE bikes.

5: Running cost (Mileage):

We will compare their running cost with an example.

Suppose you have a trip of 30km.

  • If u have an E-bike, generally runs 80-120km on a single charge and requires 2-4 KW/h of electricity. In Pakistan 4KW/h charges appx. 120 Rs. After calculating you will find it costs Rs. 30 (RS.1/km) to reach your destination.
  • In contrast, the petrol price is 250Rs/L in Pakistan. ICE bike will run between 40-50 km/L. It will cost RS,150-180 (5-6 Rs /km) to complete your journey.

So, in terms of cost-efficiency, E-bikes are 5-6 times cheaper than ICE motorcycles.

6: Maintenance:

  • The maintenance of Electric bikes is so low. In terms of mechanics, you only have to change their batteries after 4-5 years. Batteries cost huge but most people, after 5-6 years, shift to newer technology and other new models. So, E-bike maintenance cost is generally minimal. Other expenses are the same as all bikes i.e. you have to change their tires in time, maintain their braking system, body wear, and tear, etc.
  • On the other hand, ICE bike's Engine routine maintenance is comparatively high. Due to combustion Engine, many kinds of problems could appear, which costs more.

7:Spare Parts availability:

It's also a major topic to discuss.

  • In the service category, the Petrol engine bike is more consumer-friendly. Their mechanics and parts are more often available in all cities.
  • E-bikes services are less often available and, in some cases, you have to import their parts from the manufacturing country.

Conclusion:

We have discussed various aspects of the two different categories of bikes. In the end, we conclude that if you are a person willing to have a cost-economical and green environment-friendly product, then E-bike must be your choice. If you are a tourist and like to travel long journeys on motorcycles, then you should prefer to purchase an ICE bike.
